The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc announced that he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in April 2017.

CLL is a rare blood cancer in which patients produce too many blood cells. Treatment varies with the each patient and the stage of the cancer. According to his oncologist, Nicholas Finn, MD, of the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre in Montreal, Quebec, the Minister will begin treatment next week.  Dr Finn stated, “Due to the stage of the condition, the Minister has the flexibility to schedule treatments in a way that will have minimal impact on his work. The treatments will conclude this spring. Minister LeBlanc can then expect a pause in treatment for many years, with only routine follow-ups.” said Dr. Finn.
